Program - Location Privacy: Recent Legal and Policy Developments


The Centre for Spatial Law and Policy is hosting a discussion on location privacy in the United States on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Morton’s The Steakhouse in the Reston Town Center.  This two-hour program will take place in two parts. The first hour will be a presentation, “Location Privacy: Recent Legal and Policy Developments”. The presentation will outline (i) proposed legislation in the United States involving location privacy, (ii) recent efforts by federal agencies (e.g. Federal Trade Commission, Department of Commerce, etc.) to address location privacy concerns (iii) important court cases, including U.S. v. Jones and (iii) the unique aspects of location information that will make it difficult to regulate from a privacy standpoint.    (The Centre has applied for 1-hour of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit for attorneys practicing in Virginia.) The second hour will consist of a discussion among all the attendees on the potential impact of these developments for businesses and government agencies.
